New Zealand has a long track record for innovation in the maritime industry, and Tectrax is no exception. Two decades ago, New Zealand boatie, Rob Gower, found that launching and retrieving his boat was getting harder, preventing him from enjoying his passion. In 2004, after testing some of his initial theories in his garage, Rob built his first hydraulic amphibious boat. (link to sea beast video?).
Rob loved the freedom of amphibious boating, but the hydraulic system powering the wheels was still noisy, cumbersome, and needed regular and expensive maintenance. Rob knew that electric was the way of the future – for him, and for the future of boating.
Fast forward to 2017, after a decade of tinkering, patents and enhancements by Rob and an expert engineering team, Tectrax was born and our first-generation All Wheel Electric Drive (AWEDTM) electric amphibious system took to the water. Over the following years, we launched amphibious boats with several reputable New Zealand boat builders, and focused on refining and improving our technology.
In 2022, Tectrax bought in additional investors led by Movac Venture Capital, who saw the potential for Tectrax’s technology and team. This investment has enabled us to grow the team and invest in industry-leading research and development.
In 2023, we’re now excited to launch our second-generation, fully electric amphibious system – the world’s first hydraulic-free electric solution. With fast, smooth, reliable and quiet performance, it’s better boating, by a nautical mile.
